Bodywork and Massage

Bodywork and Massage Therapy

Therapeutic massage is at the core of what makes Subtle Energies different. Our experienced and highly trained therapists work to make your massage session not only relaxing but beneficial to achieving overall well being.

Our experienced therapists will talk with you before each session to get specifics of the problems, both chronic and acute, that you are experiencing. In this way, they can formulate the perfect session to address your issues. We want to fully accommodate any and all who wish to be helped and healed through massage and body work.

Please note that everyone responds differently to massage and body work, because each person is a fully unique being. Contact us to schedule a session with one of our advanced practitioners today.

Benefits of massage

We believe in the power of massage to sooth and heal the body. It has been known to enhance your immune system, alleviate depression, relieve stress, and help your circulation, as well as numerous other benefits. Whether you’re interested in massage for recovery from an injury or illness, or just want to treat yourself, we highly recommend it!

Circulation
Massage dilates the blood vessels, thus improving circulation.
Relaxation
Massage relaxes muscle contractions, spasms, and relieves general body tensions. It also helps alleviate stress, worry, anger, and other negative feelings.
Lymph
Massage acts as a “mechanical cleanser,” pushing along lymphatic fluids and hastening the elimination of wastes and toxic debris. Excellent for pre- and post-surgery.
Heart
Massage compensates in part for lack of exercise and muscular contraction in individuals who—because of injury, illness, or age—are forced to remain inactive. Massage helps return venous blood to the heart and so eases the strain on this vital organ.
Nervous System Balancing
Massage may have a sedative or stimulating effect on the nervous system, depending upon the type and length of the massage treatment given.
Old Injuries
Transverse massage separates muscle fibers, undoing and preventing the formations of adhesions and trigger points. (Note: sometimes this type of massage can be a tad uncomfortable.)
Nutrition
Massage improves the general circulation and nutrition of tissues. It’s accompanied or followed by an increased interchange of substances between blood and tissue cells heightening tissue metabolism.
Maintain Health
Massage increases the excretion (via the kidneys) of fluid and nitrogen, inorganic phosphorous, and salt in normally healthy individuals.
Bone Fractures

Massage encourages the retention of nitrogen, phosphorous, and sulfur necessary for tissue repair in persons convalescing from bone fractures. It also helps circulation, which brings nutrition to the injured area to help it heal. Work is not done directly on the injury.

Connective Tissues
Massage stretches connective tissues and improves the circulation and the nutrition going to the area; it also breaks down and/or prevents the formation of adhesions and reduces the danger of fibrosis.
Joints
Massage improves circulation and the nutrition to joints and hastens the elimination of harmful particles. It helps reduce inflammation and swelling in joints and thus helps in alleviating pain.
Injury/Recovery
Massage disperses the edema following injury to ligaments and tendons, reduces pain, brings nutrition to damaged tissues, and helps facilitate movement.
Musculature Support
Massage increases the blood supply and nutrition to muscles without adding to the load of toxic lactic acid which is produced through voluntary muscle contraction (i.e., workouts). Massage helps to overcome harmful muscle fatigue that results from strenuous exercise or injury.

Types of massage and body work

There are many different types of massage and body work to choose from, ranging from a relaxing massage to one designed to address physical issues. At Subtle Energies we can blend more than one type into a session. Choose from:

Swedish
Good for muscle aches and pains, circulation, relaxation, and range of motion issues (for instance head/neck and arm/shoulder). The client usually removes all clothes (while the therapist is out of the room), except perhaps underwear. The client is properly draped at all times.
Hot Stone
A hot stone massage has many of the advantages of Swedish massage, plus it works extremely well for people with very thick and/or tight muscles. Muscles release early in the session, giving the therapist more time to do specific deep work.
Lymph Drainage
This is gentle work to help with pre- or post-surgery. It’s also good for edema and other lymphatic swelling. We have recently been getting feedback that this method is very helpful to help relieve pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
CranioSacral
Client is fully clothed except for shoes. This very light and gentle work helps with sinus problems, balance, ADD, ADHD, range-of-motion, post-traumatic stress, whiplash, birth trauma, and loosening of soft tissue so deep in the body it cannot be accessed through regular massage (like in front of the spinal column). (Clients’ ages range 2 months and up).
Reflexology
The client is fully clothed except for shoes and socks. The therapist works the reflex points on the feet to help stimulate the electrical energy of the nervous system to organs, glands, and different parts of the body. Helps aching feet, bunions, flat feet, and plantar fasciitis!
Pre/Post Natal
Helps a mom-to-be or new mom through these beautiful but trying times! The client can wear whatever is comfortable or prepare as if a regular Swedish massage were being given.
Sports
Helps athletes prepare for sports events and also helps to relieve post-sports-related pain, stress, and problems.
Special Needs and Disabilities
We have many clients in this population and will visit group homes. This work helps with spastic muscles (in case of MD), behavioral problems, social skills, and ensures comfort with “gentle” touch. We can work with clients in wheelchairs, hospital beds, sitting in their favorite chair, or on a massage table. We are very flexible with these sessions to allow the best experience possible.
SomatoEmotional Release and Post-Traumatic Stress
This work requires a lot of advanced training. Connie works with the clients to help release unpleasant memories stored in the client’s body that impact the client’s ability to function at times. This has tremendously helped post-9/11 firemen, policemen, and survivors. It’s also helpful with sleep disorders; physical, mental, and emotional abuse; and with birth and other trauma. Sixty or 90-minute sessions are required. If you are “stuck” with your psychological sessions, this is a good session to have. It can unlock memories that were truly forgotten, allowing you and your psychologist to explore new areas of your life in your future sessions with them. We suggest one CranioSacral session with Connie before booking this. The client is fully clothed except for shoes.
The Brain Speaks

This work is an advanced version of the SomatoEmotional Release and Post-Traumatic Stress work. It is performed by having a “dialogue” directly with the brain. It’s often recommended by psychologists and other therapists for post-traumatic stress, personality disorders such as depression, confusion, unresolved anger that psychological counseling cannot uncover, multiple personality disorders or distortions, and much more. People who have become “stuck” in working with their psychologists because they are constantly rehashing the same thing can use the Brain Speaks to uncover and unlock memories so that they can continue with their psychologist in a more beneficial way. We suggest one CranioSacral session with Connie before booking this. The client is fully clothed except for shoes.

Immune System Response
This work is a very advanced version of Brain Speaks. It allows dialogue with the immune system and helps the client to heal, accept, and work with such things as Lyme disease, cancer, rheumatoid and other types of arthritis, auto-immune diseases, and more. We suggest one CranioSacral session with Connie before booking this. The client is fully clothed except for shoes.
Reiki
Reiki is an energy technique practiced throughout the world. It’s very gentle and non-invasive. It’s not a religion, but a way of transmitting gentle loving energy from the universe into a client’s energy field. It helps on all levels—physical, mental, and emotional. It’s thoroughly relaxing and allows your body to get into a “healing” mode so that it can help in healing itself. The client is fully clothed except for shoes/socks.

Fluid Anatomy

Gentle work, much like CranioSacral which helps balance fluid throughout the whole body – lymph, blood, bone marrow, interstitial fluid, etc. Helps with coordination, chronic pain and inflammation, recovery from surgeries or accidents.

Lymph Drainage

Balance and reduce lymph swelling such as edema, post surgical swelling, congestion from removal of lymph nodes, etc.

Foot Reflexology

Gentle work on the reflexes in the foot to help balance and tonify organs, glands, and joints throughout the body. Also helps to relax foot and leg muscles and tendons that become taxed by activities like running, skiing, hiking, biking, and wearing shoes that may not fit properly.

Please note that everyone responds differently to massage and body work, because each person is a fully unique being.
